Chair of Media Informatics at Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg (UniBA)
The chair is part of the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science. Its focus is on information retrieval, data management, digital humanities and multimedia technology. In addition to informatics fundamentals, the interdisciplinary application of informatics is the focus of research and teaching. As a founding member of the Zentrum für innovative Anwendungen der Informatik (ZIAI), established in 2015, the chair promotes the transfer between informatics and the other disciplinary specializations of the University of Bamberg.
Since 2011, the chair has been a member of the BMBF-funded joint project DARIAH-DE. Methods for research-oriented data modeling and processing conceived at the chair manifested themselves in various software components, such as the Data Modeling Environment (DME) and the Generic Search, which are used beyond their application in DARIAH-DE by projects such as the research association Marbach Weimar Wolfenbüttel. Oral-History.Digital uses the DME for collection-specific modeling of heterogeneous data and metadata. Mechanisms for explicating context-specific information enable the enrichment of data - the definition of semantic associations facilitates the logical merging of collections. The DARIAH Service Provider component, also developed in the context of DARIAH-DE, facilitates the management and federation of user access and permissions. Oral-History.Digital will also be able to draw on infrastructural preparatory work on the part of DARIAH-DE with regard to the authentication and authorization of users.
The Chair of Media Informatics at the University of Bamberg supports the work on norm data, search functionalities and rights management in the Oral-History.Digital project.
